How To ‘Take no thought for your life’?

How To ‘Take no thought for your life’?

‘Take no thought for your life’.

No thought!

How often are our thoughts taken up with this life rather than Jesus?

How can we afford this? Or what shall we do about that problem? Or when can I fit this into my week? How can I get it all done?

Work, friends, meals, housework, money.  All these daily cares. Are they consuming our thoughts and pulling them away from resting in Jesus?

‘Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?’

No thought!

Yes meals need to be cooked, shopping done, bills paid and these things require an element of thought and planning.

Indeed we need to care about wisely stewarding our time and all God has given us for His glory.

Yes we need to care about one another.

But not be full of anxious care.

Where is our heart resting in our busyness?

Are we anxiously mulling over our problems or are we trusting and giving it all to Jesus?

What does a fretting heart say to God?

That this problem is too big for Him?

That He’s not capable of keeping His promises?

That He’s not trust worthy?

‘My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.’

Directly before telling us to take no thought for our lives Jesus said ‘No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.’

Who are serving with our minds?

Take no thought for…. Don’t take those thoughts and anxiously turn them over and over in your mind. Take them and give them to God!

‘Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.’
