All things!

All things!

Not just the good things or the easy things but the hard things too. The things that really challenge us!

‘And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.’

Not that all things will work out just how we want them to. But that they will work together for our good if we love and are called by God.

Let’s dig a bit deeper.

A Faded sunset image with the words 'all things' overlaid in black

The phrase ‘that all things’ is translated from the Greek word ‘pas’ which means ‘all, any, every, the whole, always, daily, thoroughly, whatsoever, whosoever, whole.’

You can’t get more thorough than that. Especially when it’s talking about the work of a perfect, just and holy God!

Whatsoever you are going through, whosoever you are, that loves God, daily, yes always, He will thoroughly work Your circumstances together for your good!

How about the word good? It’s the Greek word ‘agathos’ and means ‘good or benefit.’

God will work everything together for our benefit.

But what is God’s definition of good or benefit? Is it the same as ours?

We tend to think of good things as being those things that make our life here on earth easier and more comfortable.

But what about God?  Yes He cares about us but He’s not just interested in our physical lives He’s concerned with our spiritual good.

He sees the big picture that we don’t. Our whole life, every circumstance from beginning to end.  And how each circumstance affects the big picture of our lives and souls. Also how those things will affect the lives and souls of others.

Those difficult paths that make us lean harder upon God, that make us more dependent on the grace of Jesus Christ? They’re being worked together for our spiritual benefit.

These are often the things that God used honour and glorify His name.

There’s always a purpose in the pain God’s people suffer.

There’s always a way God can and will take it and use it for our good and His glory if we hold it with open hands and heart trusting Him in it all.

It may not look like what we expect but we can be sure it will be for our benefit, especially the God of our souls.

So keep leaning in dear soul, trust your Heavenly Father even though the way may seem so very dark, He’ll carry you through.  Nothing can separate you from His love.

‘Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

‘And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

With Love
