When Faith Is Tested – A Way Made
Through the effects of sin in their family many years before, (Jacob in favouriting a son, Joseph through pride in his coat and dreams and his brothers their jealousy and selling Joseph into Egypt) Israel found themselves slaves in Egypt.
Through plagues God miraculously made a way of escape for them, or so they thought.
But very soon they were trapped. Hemmed in by the mountains on either side, the Egyptian army approaching from behind and the Red Sea in front.
![a faded image of a stream running over rocks with the words a way made overlaid in black](https://saltblog.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/image_123650291-17-300x225.jpg)
It looked as though God had made a way but now the way of escape was closed.
The people were ‘sore afraid and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.’
But God!
God knew what He would do.
‘And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.’
‘And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:’
Now their faith was tested. Go forward? They could see no way forward, the water was in front of them but God was telling them to go forward.
To go forward in faith!
‘And when Moses stretched out his rod over the sea it parted and they went through on dry land.’
Maybe you too feel hemmed in by circumstances. Maybe you thought God had made a way of escape but now the way seems closed again.
Step forward in faith, do the thing that feels too hard, the thing that feels impossible and although it may not be easy, if you’re in His will, God will make a way.
