How To Know God’s Will.

January 23, 2024 by saltblog 2 Comments

How To Know God’s Will.

It’s a question often asked, how do we know God’s will in our lives?

‘Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’

Well known words and often thought of or quoted when we’re seeking for direction from God but let’s not forget the verses before.

‘My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’

Here’s how we can get direction from God.

Let’s break it down…

Don’t forget God’s word.

Keep His commandments (by His grace).

Write mercy and truth on our heart.

Trust God with all our heart.

Lean on God’s wisdom not our own.

Acknowledge God in everything.

Then He will direct us and we then follow Him.

Trusting God and His wisdom is vital but let’s not forget to be in His Word, writing it on our hearts and walking in His ways too.

It’s most often through His Word that God directs His people.

It’s His Word, His message to us, our guidebook, our map as we travel Home.

Let’s look at another scripture than can give us direction when we want to know God’s will.

In Philippians Paul tells us to rejoice, be moderate (gentle and patient) pray, not to be full of care or anxiety, pray and supplicate with thanksgiving and God’s perfect peace will fill our hearts and minds.

Then think upon these things…

‘Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’

When we are considering if something is God’s will we can ask if it meets this criteria?

Does it line up with God’s truth?

Is it honest and just?

Is it pure and lovely?

Is it of good report?

Is there virtue and praise?

If we surround ourselves with truths like this then they will often tick yes or no to what we are considering doing.

And so again we need to be living with our hearts and minds set on things above and not the things of this earth.

Beautiful! Absolutely this is the way, walking it! When we are hiding God’s word in our hearts and minds, and when we are walking by the power of the holy spirit in that word, the Lord will direct our steps into his paths of righteousness, for his name’s sake!
