What Sort of Follower Do You Want To Be?
This morning as I read the miracle of the loaves and fishes I thought about the various people that followed Jesus.
Here ‘a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.’
The disciples were also with Jesus, they followed him every day.
Others followed Jesus to hear Him teach.
Some followed for a while and then turned back.
What sort of a follower do we want to be?
Do we only seek out Jesus when we want to see miracles or answers to our prayers?
Do we only seek Jesus when we want to learn something?
Do we follow for a while until things get hard and then give up?
Or are we true disciples, walking with Him daily, doing life with Him as the disciples did, so that we might learn from Him moment by moment, looking up to Him in every area of our lives?
Jesus said to His disciples ‘follow me’ and ‘come ye after me’ they followed Him.
When ‘many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.’ Jesus said to the twelve disciples ‘Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.’
The disciples, believing that Jesus truly was the Son of the living God and counting the cost, knew that He was worthy of their devotion.
‘And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.’
