Although… Yet I Will
‘Although…yet I will…’
These words Habakkuk wrote are so important for followers of Jesus.
Terrible judgment was on the horizon yet he could say…
‘Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.’
This was to be their song when things got hard. Whatever trials God would allow, yet they would rejoice in the Lord!
There’s so much uncertainty in the world at the moment, we don’t know what the future holds. As a country here in Britain and elsewhere, we have turned our backs on God and only deserve His judgement. The possibility of war threatens and it’s easy to wonder what the future holds.
The possibility of Christian persecution seems increasingly likely too.
But, whatever the future holds, remember it’s God who holds both us and the future in His loving hands.
Just as Habakkuk’s peace was not in crops and herds neither should ours, our peace comes from our faith in God.
Whatever may happen, He is worthy of our praise.
Although things may get really tough, yet we can still rejoice in the Lord. We can have joy in our merciful God who has saved us by His amazing grace.
Just as the sure footed deer leaps on the mountain so we can joyfully go on, planting our feet firmly on the rock of ages as we face the mountains before us with joy in the Lord who will be our strength and shield whatever the future holds.
