Are You Serving Idols?
Paul, speaking to the Thessalonians, said this, ‘ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;’
The Greek word translated here as ‘turned’ means turned as in conversion, to turn about, or to be converted. But it also means to come again.
In conversion, we turn from our old sinful ways to serve the living God. We ‘turn from idols to serve the living and true God;’
But even after conversion there’s a constant battle raging between the desires of our old sinful nature to serve the world, and the new creation God has made us, to serve the living God.
There are times when we have become distracted with the world and even began to worship idols. Not idols of wood and stone but idols of pleasure, entertainment, hobbies etc, or made idols of those we love, allowing them to come before God in our lives.
So even as followers of Jesus there are times when by God’s grace we need to turn again, to turn our back away from the world and come again to God and put Him first in our lives.
Where are you today? Who or what is first in your life? Who are you serving?
Can we say with Joshua, ‘as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.’
