How To Find True Contentment?

How To Find True Contentment?

‘Godliness with contentment is great gain.’

Well known words but do they describe us?

Are we content to follow Jesus wherever He may lead or do we want a little of our own way and desires along the path?

‘For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.’

What are we clinging to? What are we not willing to give up for Jesus’ sake?

Sometimes we need to just take time and search ourselves.

Are we godly, are our lives conformed to the commands and desires of God?

Do we seek His will not our own?  Not to earn anything, (what we do can never be enough to atone for our sin) but out of love to our Saviour who took the punishment in our place.

Is it our daily desire to have our will aligned to God’s will and to live each moment for His glory?

If not we need to step back and examine what we’re really seeking in this life.

Are we content to leave all these concerns and follow Him, trusting God to supply all our needs?

Yes there’s a need to work to earn money to pay for food and clothing but where is our focus?

‘And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.’  If we have the basics it’s all we really need to follow Jesus because if we have Jesus we have everything we could ever need, both now and for eternity.

What good will our nice house, our clothes, our money, our car etc do us in the day we stand before the judgement seat of God?

That day is coming, and it’s coming soon, in the blink of an eye in comparison to eternity. When that day comes what will our focus have been on throughout our lives?

‘Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.’
