What Does it Mean to be Set Apart?

What Does it Mean to be Set Apart?

God set Israel apart. He chose them to be a people set apart for Himself.

So also He has chosen each of us that have put our trust in and believed upon Jesus Christ. He is our God and He chose us to be set apart for Him.  We are adopted into His family, a spiritual Israel.

These words written thousands of years ago to Israel are just as relevant to each of God’s children today.

‘For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

But because the LORD loved you.’

Maybe you feel you’re not good enough, always failing. You strive against sin and still you fail.

I agree, you’re not good enough and neither am I. You do often fail and so do I.

And yes we need to be daily seeking grace to overcome those faults and temptations.

But – your salvation does not depend upon you.

God loves you because He chose to love you.

He simply loves you because He loves you.

He doesn’t love you because you’re good enough, smart enough, kind enough or did enough, He simply chose to love You!

There’s nothing we can add to that or take away from it. It’s a simple fact.

He chose to set His love upon you.

On you, a sinner who often fails. A sinner who is saved, not because of what you have to offer but by the wonderful amazing grace, mercy and love of God to You.  And now you have the power of the Holy Spirit within to help you to live a life set apart for God that glorifies Him.
