How can we view God’s word going into 2024?
The psalmist in psalm 119 tells us that
‘Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.’
What precious truth to enter a new year with!
We have the greatest physical treasure here on earth right in our homes, God’s word. A book full of pure truth.
The psalmist tells us that God’s word is ‘very pure’.
The Oxford dictionary defines the word pure as ‘Not mixed or adulterated; clean, clear, refined;’
Just pure truth!
Literally the Hebrew word that’s translated here as pure means refine or purge away.
Firstly God’s word is refined, there’s nothing in it to contaminate it, we can trust it 100%, it’s not just pure it’s very pure.
Secondly it’s refining for those that read it, because as the Holy Spirit applies God’s word to our hearts it refines us.
The more we read and study God’s word and fill our minds with His truth in those little moments throughout our day: the more opportunities there are for God to refine us through it, and make us reflect a little more of our precious Jesus in our lives.
So as we begin a new year let’s try to find a few more little pockets of time in our days for God’s very pure word in 2024.
Praying for you in this New Year,
Psalm 119:140
