‘And they continued…’
Three thousand souls had repented, believed and been baptised. But what next?
They continued.
But they didn’t just continue they ‘continued stedfastly.’
‘They continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.’
Following Jesus isn’t a once and done decision, it’s a daily decision.
Throughout each day we’re making decision after decision. And in these decisions we’re either coding God’s way or the Devil’s way. We’re either following and serving God or following and serving Satan, self and the world. There’s no in between.
These early believers persevered in walking in God’s ways.
How did they and how do we persevere in following Jesus?
Is it just a case of trying really hard?
Yes and no. It’s not just about our effort although it does take effort and self discipline. Rather it’s striving through the power of Christ in us.
It’s seeking to live lives that glorify our Saviour through the power and wisdom of God that are availed to us in Christ.
‘For without me (Jesus) ye can do nothing.’
So ‘whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.’
For ‘we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.’
‘Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.’
