We’ve just remembered at Easter the wonder of what Jesus accomplished on the cross for each of us that have trusted in Him.
But how does this affect our lives?
Over and over in the gospels we see examples of those that were called to give up all to follow Jesus.
Jesus gave up everything, including His life for us, are we willing to give up all for Him?
‘And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple…. whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.’
Yes there’s a glorious freedom from the law under the gospel in the sense that we don’t have to keep it to earn our salvation but after all Christ has done for us are we not now willing to live for Him in loving obedience that He might be glorified in us?
The moral law was used to convict us, God showed us our inability to keep it, showed us our need of a Saviour and now it’s our guide to show us how we can live lives that honour and glorify our God and Saviour from a place of love and gratitude through the power and grace of Christ in us.
But back to forsaking all to follow Jesus.
I think generally our minds go to the big things. Family, where we live, being called to another land etc but what about the little things?
Is there something smaller that we are clinging to that deep down God wants us to give up?
Something in our lives that doesn’t honour Him? Maybe the way we spend our time or an unhealthy friendship or a habit?
When God convicts will you walk away sorrowful because you’re not willing to give it up or will you follow Him?
‘Follow thou me.’
