Be Strong in the Lord and in the Power of His Might

July 2, 2024 by saltblog Leave a Comment

‘My brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.’

What are we to be strong for?

The spiritual battles.

There’s a constant war going on, far fiercer than any physical war in this world and yet because we can’t see it, it’s easy to forget it’s happening.

Daily there are battles, daily there are casualties and daily there are victories for one side or the other.

The enemy is far stronger than us and the only hope we have of winning is through Christ.

Which is why Paul tells us to ‘be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.’

[Have you ever thought about the fact that many of the decisions you make are a victory for one side or the other.]

Remember, ‘we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.’

So ‘take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.’

Arm yourself with the sword of the truth of God’s word, it’s your sword to fight the enemy. Be girded with truth, protect your heart with the breastplate of righteousness, your feet with the gospel of peace, your head with the helmet of salvation and quench those fiery darts of the devil with the shield of faith. ‘Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. And watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;’

This is how we fight. Not in our own strength and wisdom but through Christ and all He has done for us. In the power of His might. Covered in His righteousness and salvation, protected by faith in Him, defending ourselves with the truth of His Word.

And through Him the battle will be won.

Ah Friends, ‘thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.’

.
