How To Have Peace With God?
Paul said ‘We have peace with God‘.
What an incredible blessing that is, peace with God!
Why or how do we have this peace?
‘Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:’
We have peace because we are justified by faith. We are made righteous in God’s eyes not just in that moment, or until we sin again but forever!
“Hallelujah, what a Saviour!”
How about if we flip that?
If we were justified by our works we wouldn’t have any peace, Why? Because we’d always be striving and failing and striving and failing on repeat.
But because justification is full and free we can have peace with God.
‘A man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.’
‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.’
Our works are the working out of what has already been worked within.
If we don’t have that peace with God then we need to ask ourselves why our and examine our hearts.
Do we really believe justification is full and free or are we in some way trying to add to that by our works?
True humility isn’t saying what a wretched sinner we are as though we’re not quite good enough for God yet and still have some work to do on ourselves.
Real humility and peace come when we truly realise that we can’t add a thing to our justification or salvation.
We have peace when we look away from self to Jesus. And admit that we’re saved by amazing, wonderful and free grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ, trusting only in Him.
By faith in Jesus we also have access to all the grace we need to enable us to stand and live lives that glorify God. Not by striving in our own efforts but by dying to self and allowing Christ to live through us.
Then we can ‘rejoice in hope of the glory of God.’
And not only that, we can glory in tribulations and trials because we know that through them God is working in us patience (or perseverance), experience (or character) and hope. This hope does not make us ashamed or disappoint, ‘because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.’
Whereas hope in our own ability and efforts will always disappoint.
