Two Sparrows

February 13, 2026 by saltblog

‘Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.’

These are comforting words that we all probably know, words that speak of God’s protection and how intricately He knows us.

But let’s take a quick look at the context.  The verse immediately preceding these says

‘Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.’

The disciples were being sent into the world, out into the streets, the towns and cities to preach but they were not to fear those that may try to harm their bodies for God’s word, the truth will prevail.

Yes there are those that may cause us to fear physically but so much more we need to fear the God who created us and gives us each breath and His precious Son who holds ‘the keys of hell and of death.’

‘Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.’

Spurgeon said “There is no cure for the fear of man like the fear of God.”

We too may be fearful about sharing the gospel with an unbelieving and often hostile world but we should fear more to grieve and deny our Saviour.

Do we reverence and fear our God more than we fear the opinion of men?

God has all the grace we need, do you believe it?

‘O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.’

He is worthy of our all.

With love
