Where Are Your Thoughts Today?

May 21, 2025 by saltblog

Following on from our recent thoughts on Paul’s concluding remarks to the Philippians, he goes on to say these well known words…

‘Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’

Our thoughts can get so busy. Sometimes we can’t sleep at night because our thoughts are racing or during the day we’re thinking about this and that.

There’s doubts and fears. There’s anxious thoughts and there’s the what ifs and the if onlys. Then there’s the thoughts of comparison. There are frustrated or angry thoughts, judgemental and unkind thoughts.

All sorts of thoughts whirling around in our heads.

But here Paul’s telling us what we should be thinking about, what our minds should be on.

On things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy.

The thing is, we have control over our thoughts. We can take them captive, and as Paul tells us elsewhere, bring them in line with God’s will.

‘Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;’

How? By constantly clinging to Jesus, fixing our eyes on Him and filling our minds with the truth of God’s word.

But do we?

Friends, let’s be those that are constantly leaning into the grace of Jesus Christ and seeking to bring every thought captive and aligning it with His will.

With love
