Who Through Faith Ran the Race Set Before Them

October 2, 2024 by saltblog

‘Who through faith…’

This is how the long list ends of those who faithfully ran the race.

‘ Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong’ etc.’

Rahab didn’t know for sure that the men would keep their promise but in faith she hung that scarlet cord.

Gideon went against a great army with just 300 men trusting that God would come through for him.

Noah was mocked but by faith he still kept building the ark even though he’d never seen rain.

‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’

We cannot see how things will work out but we are promised that ‘all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.’

‘Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…’

How?

Looking Unto Jesus

‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.’

We fix our eyes on the prize, on our Saviour, our Husband, our Friend and lay aside those doubts, those fears and those distractions that would hinder us and we take the next step, and the next and the next, trusting Him even though the way may be oh so dark and rough. For has He not said ‘I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.’
