No Condemnation To Them Which Are In Christ Jesus
‘There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.’
No condemnation!
What precious words for each of us that have put our faith in Jesus Christ!
But the battle with my flesh is so strong you may say.
Yes, and Paul felt it too!
‘For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do…O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?’
But Paul could continue…
‘I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.’
NO condemnation.
Not less condemnation but through precious faith in Jesus Christ, No condemnation!
We are free from the dominion of sin, it no longer has any control or power over us. The law cannot condemn us because the price has already been paid.
‘For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.’
Our old man is crucified with Christ ‘so that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.’
‘For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.’
Jesus rose from the grave freed from the power of sin and death and so by grace, through faith in Him we have the same freedom from the power of sin.
‘If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.’
Do we live as though we believe this?
Being under grace rather than the law doesn’t mean we can live as we like. We are no longer slaves to the law to try to do the impossible and be good enough to earn God’s favour. Rather we’re under grace and are free to live for God’s glory through the grace of Jesus Christ.
Nothing but grace will give us the power to resist sin but this grace is freely available to all who believe.
Yes there will be times when we allow our flesh to rule instead of grace. But we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.
So let’s stop striving in our own strength. And instead be leaning into the all sufficient grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. So that we might live lives that honour and glorify Him.
‘My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:’
